Our training focuses on teaching you how to teach, with an emphasis on form, adjustments, modifications, and building a large repertoire of exercises. Teaching is a skill, and we give you the practice, tools, and most importantly, the confidence to fully develop that skill. You will leave our training with the self-esteem of expertise - we guarantee it.
* No Restrictions: Those who complete our teacher training program are free to teach at any studio.
Callie Kim has been teaching group exercise classes for over a decade and has trained dozens of barre and fitness instructors. Her trainings are grounded in the most recent exercise physiology research and focus on preparing instructors to teach classes to diverse fitness populations. She graduated summa cum laude with a degree in exercise science in 2007. Her fitness career began as she transitioned from a college athlete to a certified personal trainer and group fitness instructor. She trained Olympic athletes and Olympic-hopefuls at the Australian Institute of Sport and the ACT Academy of Sport, both in Canberra, Australia. She has taught classes to all abilities and levels, including total beginners, Oscar-winning actors, MLB players, professional rugby players, Olympians, and those just looking to lead healthier, more active lives. She currently owns and operates two barre and yoga studios in Philadelphia while practicing law full time.
All of the feedback was constructive and conveyed in a positive, supportive manner. I felt encouraged the entire way, even when it was difficult. Callie took all the time necessary to help me strengthen my weaknesses so that I felt comfortable and confident when I taught a room full of students. I loved the training, not to mention the awesome community at Tuck! I highly recommend!

Teacher training at Tuck was really beneficial for me. I was nervous because I had never taught exercise before but the training left me with a better sense of myself, more confidence and the ability to make creative classes on my own. Callie is an encouraging teacher and is always looking to help you get better - that doesn't stop when the training is over. You won't regret taking this training - it will help you in all aspects of your life!

We know barre teacher training can be anxiety-inducing. We're here to ease your fears!
Yourself, a snack, water and some energy! We'll provide you with the training materials you'll need. If you really like to take notes you might also want to bring a notebook.
Yes! Even if you've never taught an exercise class before, we encourage you to step out of your comfort zone. You'll be surprised how much of teaching is part of your every day life (connecting to people, public speaking) and the rest you'll learn as you go!
Not much! Barre is a low impact strength and toning exercise that will make you work muscles you didn't even know you had. It's not easy, so expect to sweat and work hard. You should take at least 10 barre classes before you start your training. That way you get an idea of barre exercises and how teachers teach in class.
Training will take place at our West Philly studio located at 3400 Lancaster Avenue, Suite #6 in Philadelphia (right next to Insomnia Cookies).
We require you to be present for all four days (two weekends) of training in order to receive a certification. If you have an emergency (they happen!) we can transfer your teacher training to the next time we train. Unfortunately we can't reschedule an individual training day just for one person.
***Please note that we reserve the right not to issue a certification to any person who we do not feel is prepared to teach safe and effective barre classes. We refund half of the cost of training and allow you to take training again for half price in the event a certification is not issued.
